AMG 190E 3.2l REAR WING

This was a extremely rare find, it is a factory AMG wing that was optional on the W201 and W124 tuned models.  It has more of a swept look than the 16 valve rear wing and a bonus is the center section support piece, see the close up in the next picture.

As you can see from this close up, the center support section has the AMG logo prominently embossed and sits right above the MB star.  Some owners have cut this out and mounted third brake lights in this location.

Here is a side profile shot, I like how the wing is swept back and goes right off the edge of the trunk lid.  If you have not already noticed, the wing is currently painted metallic black and I have not prepped it yet, it will be painted body color of course.  I might highlight the AMG logo with black, not sure yet, still thinking about it

To mount the wing, I attached some white paper over the bottom mounting points, positioned the wing on the trunk lid, then un-taped the paper from the wing and taped it to the trunk lid.  This allowed me to properly align the mounting holes before I started drilling.

To perfect mounting points.  I dimpled the sheet metal with a punch and used a fresh drill bit to drill the holes.  Nothing worse than a dull drill bit slipping and scratching your paint.

The underside of the trunk lid was a bit more tricky, as the wing holes aligned themselves right over a outer skin area that needed to be trimmed away so I could get a bolt into the wing and of course get a socket wrench up in there.

This is the other side of the trunk that also required a bit of trimming to get the bolts into the wing.

Trimming away the outer skin area created another problem, once the metal was cut away, it opened a gap from the rain gutter area into the trunk.  It was possible that water could work its way into the trunk, so I had to get innovative.  I cut some sections from a radiator hose and using silicone, secured them in place over the newly cut holes.  This provides for a water tight seal against the rain gutter and also can be removed if I ever need to remove the wing.

This is a profile shot of the wing painted and installed.  Only took about 2 hours to install.  Since I did not have any rubber gaskets for the center pedestal or the mounting points, I used silicone and once the wing was in place, I filled in the small gaps with a bit more silicone.  The silicone will keep water away from the bolts (and the holes) and keep debris out.

This is a rear show of the 190 with the AMG wing painted and installed.  I decided not to highlight the AMG lettering in any way

Another close up shot of the wing.  I also painted the Mercedes star body color for a more clean monochrome look
