To
deal with a outstanding tire to fender rubbing issue, I elected to
installed factory 16 Valve 190E fender flares. Although they don't
match up to the existing bumpers, they do look very good. Three of
these I purchased from overseas and the fourth came from Pat at Potomac Germany
Auto (thanks Pat!) Paint cost about $120 at a local high end shop.

The
first step here was to protect the wheel and then make a paper template to
assist me with getting the mounting holes in the correct location.
The 16 valve mounting holes are a bit oblong, probably to assist with
alignment, so I cut mine the same. I used a drill bit to get the
pilot holes in place and then a dremel with a grinder to widen up the
holes.

The
finished fender waiting for the flare to be installed.
You need to be careful drilling and widening the holes, one slip up and
there goes your paint. You also may need to remove some of the rust
proofing under coating from directly behind the fender lip, as your flare
studs may not be long enough

And
the finished product. The flares don't quite flow into the bumpers
as on the 16 valve, but that's my next project!
