Suspension Updates
The
CLK320 normally comes with a 3.07:1 rear differential. Since the CLK is
based off of a W202 design, the parts from later model W202's are compatible.
The 2000 C230 uses a compatible differential and transmission computer and the
gearing is 3.27:1. So this was transplanted into the CLK to increase 0-60
performance times. Its a direct swap and no need to change the axels.
To
further improve handling, the largest available sway bars were sourced.
Normally the CLK55 sway bars are a good choice, but the Renntech's are actually
larger (30mm for the front). You can see that this is a massive sway bar!
For
the suspension, the Kleemann Speed Sensitive struts/springs were chosen.
According to Kleemann, the struts adjust to the driving characteristics either
soft for normal driving or hard for competition driving. These are a more
aggressive setup then say the Bilstein Sports and H&R springs.
The
Lorinser exhaust body is silver nornally, I prefer to have the body black, so
during a recent oil change, I decided to paint the exhaust can and spare tire
compartment black. I use a engine enamel, which is very durable in high
temp environments.
Another
angle of the Lorinser muffler after painting. I painted the exhaust tubing
up to the connector joints.
One
more picture from a different angle. When looking at the rear of the car,
the spare tire tub and exhaust can/pipe does not stand out like it used to.
