AA Engines Easy Rollers
Any one who lowers their C5 really needs to invest in these babies! Avoid that nasty nerf bar crunch when going over speed bumps, road dips or parking close to curbs. Even if you do not lower your C5, these are wonderful items to have. To bad GM did not think of this one!

These first two pictures shows the passenger side nerf bar and the drivers side nerf bar.  If you look closely at the first picture, you can see that I have already whacked it pulling up to a curb.

Our first job was to center punch the location of where we wanted to drill our hole.  I suggest at least two people to do this job.  You can see that one person is needed just to hold the bumper assembly out of the way so the air drill does not come in contact with it.  The middle picture shows where we drilled our hole.  You need to take the rollers apart and do some measurements to make sure you drill the hole just right.  Once the hole was finished, we used a disc grinder to smooth out any ruff spots and also to remove the paint to insure a good weld between the nerf and roller assembly.

Although these pictures do not show it, I suggest you put something between the top of the roller and your bumper.  Maybe a thick piece of rubber, anything to help prevent heat transfer from the roller assembly to the bumper skin.  The white areas are where the weld was done.  The last picture shows the roller assembly welded into place and a little black spray paint applied to cover up the raw weld as well as the area where we grinded away some of the black paint.

Ah, the finished product.  Drilled, welded, painted and installed.  You can get a pretty good idea of how these puppies are going to work, just by looking at these pictures.  Although I am sure the bolt and welds will prevent the rollers from moving, just in case I put a piece of adhesive backed rubber between the roller assembly and the bumper.  I have not hit anything yet, so there has been no opportunity for me to actually put these to the test.

Special thanks to Andy at AA Engines for the hook up on the rollers and Pete at Muffler King in Kirkland Washington (425-821-8382) for the excellent installation work.
